Larry, sometimes I have an XLS file not open when double clicking on the file name, but opening ok after opening Excel and FILE>OPEN. Gottfried

Not sure if this will work but it can’t hurt to try. A few years ago I remember folks having trouble opening files on a floppy because the disk was formatted wrong and would work only on the machine that created it.

Try opening the file on your girl friends machine and then save it to the hard drive and see if it can be mailed to you as an attachment.
