The loss of customers might be an operational problem, and not a technological one. If so, it's conceivable a new owner could turn that around in due time.

That may be true, but I know AT&T so hates CDMA technologies that they have considered going directly to 4G as possibly a more cost-effective upgrade path. At least an AWE white paper was presented on the topic a year or two ago. Since 4G in a handset form is years away, I think that probably puts AWE's dilemna in perspective.

Nevertheless, perhaps a Vodaphone could come in and turn it around. But the original point being, I believe that the reason for AWE's rise, despite dismal business prospects at present is the hoped for acquisition by a new owner who could turn it around.
