It's easy to criticize. What is the other option? Keep fighting? Allow terrorists to keep killing civilians? Are Palestinians willing to negotiate? Arafat has gone through how many PM's, each of whom wanted authority to make peace. I wasn't in favor of the fence when I first heard about it. But if the Palestinians refuse to negotiate and terrorists keep up their cowardly attacks, it seems the only solution is to leave most of the territories and to make a fence that will provide some defensible borders.

Olive trees or hundreds of people getting killed, is a no brainer decision. Saving olive trees is hardly a viable or defensible option.

In the U.S., if the Federal Government is going to build a superhighway across your farm, imminent domain, I think thats the right term, requires the farm owner to receive equitable compensation for the loss of land and impact to his farm. If the Palestinians have actual title to the land and are not squatters, seems to me Isreale must be compensating them for it. The Palestinians keep saying land in Israel is theirs however at the beginning of Zionism, Jews who came to Palestine starting buying up land legally all over the place. When Palestine was partitioned in 1948, a Palestinian state was created. That state was thrown away, by the subsequent arabic country aggression. In addition in the Israeli partition, no Palestinians had their land taken away. Under the scare tactics of arabic leadership, Palestinians abandoned their property for fear of genocide of all things. In this country we have escheatment laws. For example if I abandon money in a bank account for five years, without making any transactions or contacting the bank, the State Government seizes those funds for its own use.
