Umm, Kasich has a bit of a selective memory. These accomplishments were possible because a committed team of public servants made huge political sacrifices for the benefit of their children. It took a government shutdown (showdown) to make it clear to President Bill Clinton that I and others in Congress would stop at nothing less than fiscal responsibility. Less discretionary spending, savings in entitlement programs, lower interest rates and capital gains tax cuts — which provided incentives for economic growth — were the drivers of our success.

Actually, if you go back to the debates on Clinton's tax hikes, you would hear almost every Republican screaming that they were going to run the economy into a depression, destroy investment and the deficit would be totally out of control. If I had the interest, I'm pretty sure I could find even Kasich making these arguments--they are his style. I can vividly recall Phil Graham getting blue in the face arguing against them. Not one of his predictions turned out to be valid. So much for Ph.D.s in economics (I think he has one, doesn't he?).
