what effect is this having on salaries in SV? jobs lost there means more competition for the jobs that remain.

Feb issue of Wired has cover story on India IT. jobs with 70K avg salary here done for 8K avg salary there. IBM apparently believes the 20x bigger opportunity is for business process outsourcing, BPO. i am very interested in how this will unfold--is it truly possible that entire accounting and HR departments will be moved offshore? if so, how long will it take, and what will the impact be on domestic salaries in a period already lacking in real income growth?

Lizzie, RE: "Part of the reason all these jobs are going is that they are tax free, as in zero- no fed, fica, nothing."

How do companies avoid paying taxes when offshoring?

I know of no example. Sorry to keep asking you this question, but you never answered it.

Some foreign countries' taxes are extremely high.
