The campaign finance business is a good example of mistaking an attempt to equalize things as fairness. In the state of Maryland, for example, the GOP has to expend more in order to overcome the machine in Baltimore and several counties. It took 35 years to get another Republican governor, after Agnew, and even Agnew wouldn't have made it if a racist had not slipped by in the Democratic primaries, and made some kookie remarks during his campaign. The Republicans needed money for infrastructure, and to counteract the "old boys" network. In a different state, the Democrats would be at a disadvantage, and needs would shift. When there are structural advantages that are unregulated, equalizing financial resources is merely a way of enforcing the status quo.........
