Who ascertained that the old man was "serving as human cover"? The Globe writer didn't attribute that statement to Kerry or his men. Did the old man tell them that? Was he armed?

Is "human cover" a valid, intentional first target? Did we go out and firebomb Tikrit and Baghdad to get rid of the "human cover" first, to expose the troops?

How do they know the old man was even aware of the machine-gun nest nearby? Kerry gave the intentional order to spray him with bullets, not interrogate him.
