One thing about the intel community is no lack of defense scenarios

The story at the time was that Saddam would "Hedgehog" and turn Baghdad into "Stalingrad." We heard warning after the warning from the "Anti-War" crowd that we would take thousands of casualties.

When we got there, one Colonel had the guts to order a raid into Baghdad. It went so well they stayed. That's called "Recon by force," and it's a great way to find out what is going on.

One thing about the intel community is no lack of defense scenarios. Determining which are realistic is a different matter.

I agree...and recon is our preferred method of getting battlefield knowledge or intel. Recon by fire to assess the enemy's strength and will to fight is the ultimate intel assessment.

The thunder runs into Iraq were classic recon by fire maneuvers. And they provided very accurate intel.
