Been studying this case that pretty closely I see.

The closeup of the outfit shows snaps for the tearaway breast covering.

it's unlikely MTV didn't know exactly what they were going to do

I think it happened as Jackson said. A last minute decision to go for "shock" by her and Timberlake.

I have been following the media articles on how MTV, et al, go after the youth market. They test, and will show anything they can get away with if it draws the youth audience they are after.

I have posted a lot about my dislike for the coarsening of the Culture. The way to turn it around is "moral persuasion." And it can't be led by some conservative Preacher with a $100 haircut and $2000 suit. That type is a perfect target for the left to shoot at.

You need the "Teddy Kennedys" of this world on your side. That is not impossible. You just need the right approach to them. Lieberman is a prime example. This is a "Nixon in China" situation. The people who can clean this up are in the "Black Caucus." You need the people who normally defend free expression to lead the charge. Then you would see Hollywood, MTV, etc, run for cover. They don't give a damn about the sex. They just want to keep their advertisers happy. And they will listen to criticism from the people that are normally on their side.

The Right has never been good at using "Front Groups" the way the Left does. I get approached to go after our local hotbed of Academic Leftism, the Social Science Profs at the University of Hawaii. And I tell them, "not on your life!" An old "Haole" like me is a perfect target for UH Academics. I represent everything they hate.

The way to do it would be to contact Student Conservatives and, on the QT, back them with some money for Controversial Mainland Speakers. Bring in Horowitz, et al. But never show our face. Let the students do it all and take the credit.

I wrote a Letter to the Editor concerning the sleazy half-time show at the Super Bowl held here between the Packers and the Patriots a few years ago. I can't find it anymore, though it got published--okay, I pulled a few strings to get it published but it was a good letter anyway.

I railed on about the impropriety of showing a bunch of middle-aged bikers with scantily clad young girls on the back of their motorcycles at an internationally televised event. I lambasted the NFL for allowing James Brown, a convicted wife-beater (and worse), to sully what should be a G-rated spectacle.

Wish I could find the letter. Got a lot of calls at home, pro and con.
