I don't think this virus is going to take prisoners. The more you look the worse it gets. It has one particular mutation on its NA protein that is rarely found in H5N1 isolates (I only found one from 1959 in a chicken in Scotland). However it is on others including the N1 associated with H1 in a sequence from the 1918 pandemic. This is definitely a nasty bug
