Due to the relative cost structure the equivalent of $20,000 per year provides amazing prosperity. In most countries an item like a BMW costs less than half of what it does here.

So what is it that keeps you living in a place that has one of the highest cost of living expenses in the US? There must be something there that keeps you paying through the nose to live there. And why do we get so many immigrants from these places where educated relatively well paid people can live like kings? Or has that stopped? Seems we're still getting their young working age people while the low cost of living places are getting our retirees.

On the china side my business partner was saying that a GM car was a luxury and cost around $50,000 - 60,000 US.

If you are talking about the basics like food, shelter, ect, yes, your dollar does go a long way. Oddly enough though, my business partner does say that if you want a nice home in the suburbs outside of Beijing, you are still going to pay through the nose.

At least there not everyone has a car so your rush hour should be shorter in theory.
