And the crowd cheered him on.

Kerry has done some things I admire. For example, he sponsored a bill on religious freedom in the workplace after the United States Supreme Court partially eviscerated a prior law. I was researching that recently in light of the French law against religious items in public schools, and was very surprised to see that Kerry sponsored that, but then, I don't really know much about him.

I, too, was opposed to the way that the war was fought in Viet Nam - not against the concept but the actuality. I think most veterans of Viet Nam feel the same way. I think it took courage to speak out against it given that he wanted a political career. He was certainly going against the tide. Back then, being opposed to anything the government did could brand you. I had to take loyalty oaths to get student jobs and later when i worked for the state of Louisiana.

So, I don't reject Kerry in toto. But I deeply deplore personalizing what are really policy differences, differences of opinion.
