My apologies Maurice.. I just kinda tired of people discussing topics on this thread from perspectives that clearly bear little resemblance to reality. Japan has it's crime, although low.. But it's also a primarily homogenous society famed for its discipline... But WWII showed that the Japanese have just as much capacity as any society to inflict tremendous aggression and suffering upon its neighbors... The very same neighbors that any world government would seek to unify under a civil international order.. Hell, even in England, where Bobbies were famed for not packing a gun, we're seeing more and more officers arming themselves in the face of violent crime.. This is part of what happens when the world's societies clash with one another and the adopted society they are living in (along with prejudice, economic exploitation, and political marginalization)...Things aren't easy and solutions aren't perfect. Absolutely.. And I'm not saying that I expect, or desire, the UN to be perfect either.. But I do expect it to be effective when it passes binding resolutions, which are mandated to be enforced by the WHOLE UN MEMBERSHIP. Jacob was spouting off with his fantasies of "world government abolishing war", as if this isn't an oxymoron (if it's to be enforced).... Think about it.. "No nation can commit war. And if you do, then the UN will enforce its law with what... force?"... Kinda silly isn't it?Jacob isn't advocating a great global army conquering the world to achieve a world government and neither am I. Then exactly what is he advocating? An "Iraqi solution" where he spends years debating, boycotting, and spouting utopian diatribes while someone else takes it upon themselves to perform the "dirty work"? Lazzez-Faire government is an oxymoron. Any government must possess, and be willing to use under statuatory mandate, coercive measures to enforce social order.. And in the case of a world government, the UN currently lacks any statuatory mandate, nor the coercive means to enforce anything it proclaims.. It relies solely upon the coercive means of its membership. And many of those members, such as we've seen from France, Germany, and Russia, have a self-interest in undermining the UN when mere words eventually rely upon coercive power. And one more point.. Jacob sits there and rails against slavery, claiming that the US has "enslaved" Iraq... That's the kind of insane BS that indicates that he nearly delusional in his perceptions. If this were slavery, we certainly wouldn't be arming and empowering our "slaves" to defend themselves or to create their own government. Seems to me that Jacob is trying to claim that Saddam's brutal totalitarian regime represented some kind of enlightened democracy or something... If anything, the Shiites and Kurds were the slaves of the Sunnis. And even the Sunnis were the slaves of the clan from Tikrit. Hawk
