For my birthday, a mandoline - the kitchen gadget, not the instrument
I'm glad you explained. I thought for a minute you were going to accompany the rice maker when it performed. Which actually is a very nice thought. I could come sing along. I am a high mezzaluna.

I can't believe I am still sitting here in my bathrobe and it's 1:30. I did make maple-walnut bread from a mix and one phone call.
Must go do --something.
Eat.
All this food talk has made me ambitious. You are obviously a very good cook. I find since the boys have left home and Dan is on the Atkins, I don't cook at all.
I think I have an envelope of instant oatmeal in the pantry. It won't sing, but it does spit in the microwave if I leave it too long.

It's actually very useful for, say, slicing potatoes for potatoes au gratin

And for slicing off the tips of your fingers. I speak, sadly, from experience.
