Yes, Prescott does not appear to have performance expected from it. But it should definitely be cheaper, since it does have a much smaller die.

Inevitably the clock speed will go up soon due to the customary design tweaks. So within a few months the hoopla about the underperformance and running hot will go away.

Plus we know that Prescott has the LaGrande technology, which will be enabled when Microsoft has the software ready for it. The Prescott is also believed to have the x64 technology, which will be enabled only if and when Intel sees it fit to do so. Hopefully the IDF will shed more light on the hidden extra features of Prescott, which are dissipating more power.
