German Unemployment Rises as Companies Wait to Hire (Update3)
Feb. 5 (Bloomberg) -- German unemployment rose a seasonally adjusted 28,000 in December, the first increase since May, the Federal Labor Agency said, indicating that companies are waiting for the economic recovery to take hold before boosting hiring.

``The economic recovery is having a delayed effect on the labor market,'' said Klaus Schruefer, an economist at SEB AG in Frankfurt. ``The decline in unemployment will stabilize in the course of the year.''

Under a new method of calculation introduced this month that excludes some people on training and job-placement programs, adjusted unemployment fell 81,000 to 4.27 million. The jobless rate fell to 10.2 percent from 10.4 percent under this method
