Lewis on his own transition to belief in God, "What has been holding me back...has not been so much a difficulty in believing, as a difficulty in knowing....you can't believe a thing while you are ignorant what the thing is." Lewis's intellect played a significant role in his conversion. He realized his lack of knowledge formed the basis of his unbelief. (Again from Nicoli, Q of God) But could all these changes (resulting from his conversion) be explained psychologically as "obsessional neurosis," breakdown, or hallucinatory psychosis? The evidence weighs against this possibility. (So Nicholi).
