Albert, I think Kennedy is respected in what was the Soviet Union now. I don't think he was before LBJ had him shot. <G>

My favorite memory of Kruschev was when several of my Junior High buddies and I wrote a letter to tour the Livermore Atomic Plant. We received a polite reply, but a firm no, saying that the plant was classified top secret and they couldn't allow civilians in it. Made sense. Then when Kruschev visted The Bay Area, he was allowed to tour the plant. They trust the Premier of The Soviet Union but not a bunch of snot-nosed kids from Alviso School? Crazy days.

I was always wondering if Nikita was really nuts or if he just pretended to be nuts. The pounding of his shoe on the table at the UN looked crazy, but he certainly made the point that UN resolutions meant nothing to him. However, after they launched Sputnik, he did want to fit it out with nuclear missiles for the next trip. When the scientists told him it couldn't carry that load, he was awfully disappointed.
