I didn't use the term useless, Malcolm. I am just trying to cut the university to their actual size. Universities are oversold and overestimated and used to intimidate people to think that an army of PhD's is a condition sine qua non for development take off.

Mary coming here and branding universities as the saviors of the economy of the US vis a vis China India is wrong.

I won't trade the Thai university teacher who's my dentist by a butcher. Nor would buy medicine from a snake oil salesman.

Back to Stamford. Eating 50% of California's budget -got the information during Arnold battling to the governorship- they should give something back to the society. (I am not sure but the couple that invented the router and what became CSCO was from there).

What I will never be able to accept is the fallacy that one must have a Stamford and a Berkeley and army of PhD's to develop a country.
