Are you speaking from personal experience or personal bias My views about Japan were gleaned during several trips to Japan. My information was obtained from discussions with Japanese business partners and reading the Japanese English newspapers. My comments about the "children rentry crisis" were a summary of an English article I read in Japan. The Japanese schooling emphasis on " getting along with others" was obtained from a English newspaper in Japan, and I reconfirmed it with Japanese business partners. Even in big companies the employees are heavily evaluated and judged on how well they get along with co-workers. The group culture permeates the Japanese thought process, but Japan is also changing very rapidly. The Japanese risk aversion and consensus comments were based upon conversations I had over the years in with several Japanese. Even the Japanese complain that their culture stifles creativity, and there have been public cries to do something about the educational system. However the US cannot rest on the laurels of "creative superiority". If everyone becomes " a creative prima donna", there will be chaos. If everyone avoids the well trodden path, we will become very inefficient. We need a balanced mix of a few creative people, with the majority working on proven and well tried approaches. The creative person might make a long shot fly, but will frequently fail as well. So this has to be hedged with a safe bet.
