< We don't need Utility sized projects, we need distributed energy coming from many, many sources - that don't go down when the grid takes a dump. >

I never said we did. I was merely trying to get a cost estimate for anaerobic digestion produced power compared to current technologies, and correctly stated that it is hard to do because no large scale projects are done. Get a grip.

< I think wind power is great, if it's placed where it belongs according to the US Wind Energy Map. They will not work worth a darn if they are sited incorrectly however, which is exactly what will happen if a bunch of tax-&-spend Demoncratic political hacks start shuffling the pork to put them on their home turf. >

Duh, no shit. You know, that is just what they are doing. This current Repube Congress is doing the biggest pork spending ever, so no scoldings please. Seeing that wind works well in just about every state, I hope that we do see projects popping up everywhere. It will benefit everybody. Meanwhile, Bush and Cheney do nothing about helping us get energy independent except lobby for their friends to drill ANWR. That is a band-aid fix. Wind is forever.

I see that you must have been doing some research, which helps. Here is what you said about wind 2 days ago... "no stupid "..whooshing.." windmills splattered all over the neighborhood and skyline."

Windmills are inherently more terrorist resistant, as they are typically placed in rural areas where it would be unlikely that somebody foolin' with them on some farmers land would go unnoticed. Their power can be fed into the grid at many points or localized as desired. Perfect for distributed generation.

< I don't think you have a grip on the big picture. >

I have a lot better grip than you have. Everything that you mentioned I have been following for years, and I understand the technologies well. The newest "pinwheels" as you call them can produce electricity for thousands of homes EACH. The hubs on them are now placed over 300 ft in the air where the wind is rarely still, and much more non-turbulent. I live on the Texas coast, which happens to be one of the most ideal places in the country for wind power. All summer (9 months here) the wind blows from the SE at 15-20 m.p.h. almost non-stop. That happens to coincide with the demand for AC cooling perfectly.
