Anaerobic Digestion will be a great success in the long term. Like anything else, it has to be sited correctly so you have adequate digestible source material, a constant user for the biogas/steam/electricity, and a market for the post-digester solids (fertilizer). The markets for the latter are coming right along - much better than commercial chemical fertilizers that leach off into the water supply.

Example: An 80K head beef feeding station can provide enough manure to produce biogas fuel for generating 15 Megawatts of 24/7/365 energy from gas-turbines that Utility Co. is generally will to supply/construct/connect to their grid. the digesters also get rid of the tremendous stink previously associated with feedlots as they are totally enclosed.

If you've ever driven through NE in July, you probably know what I'm talking about.

Wind Power is a good additive source, but the props stop when the wind speed is too low or too high and would sheer or spin off off the blades.

Fuel cells and Hydrogen power are large scale jokes re: the grid. The former are great for emergency back-up at banks, the latter takes tremendous quantities of energy from the utility to make - which the BS POLITICO's always fail to include in their equations.

Nukes will come back now that that outfit in VA has discovered better ways to process the wastes.

John :-)
