One year we were in South Dakota buying our 5 day pheasant tags and in walks the warden. He asked how long we were staying and we told him 4 days. He tells the lady to back date the licenses a day so we could double limit one day and not be over our possession limit.

One of the guys lost his magazine plug out there and cut a rod the length of 2 shells to use as a plug in Illinois. It should have been 2 shells and an inch for the compressed spring. We're eating lunch after getting a limit hunting in Illinois. Up shows the warden. He gets two in this guy's magazine but the third just won't quite go. He sees reloads that don't even belong to this guy and he get's 3 in. He keeps checking everything and gets to my cousin who pulls out his side by side and tells the warden if he can fit 4 in that gun he'll eat the mother trucker, or something like that.

Now he has a case of the red ass. He's gonna write a ticket to the guy where he fit 3 reloads in the magazine. Hunting with an unplugged gun. Hunting? We be sitting here eating lunch with an unplugged gun. He's going to write the ticket anyway and I said let's go call Rich about this. Rich is a captain in the Conservation Police Department and was my neighbor. Nice guy, hard case when you were dead wrong but allowed for circumstances. We skipped that ticket.

The SOB, we got lucky part came as he had just left. Up shows my lab with the pheasant that put us over the limit. He caught it while we were eating and getting checked.
