"but go ahead, paint Japan as a victim [he will anyway, not that anyone will believe you]"

The US has much to be ashamed of from a rational and moral perspective. They have done things that were disgusting and abhorrent and despicable. However, they still have the highest moral standards in the world, I would say. And they still are largely responsible for ensuring that the world survives her religious and ideological fanatics. One can only imagine history if the US had not split from England and separated church from state. What a world it would be considering modern technology...

Japan did sneak attack the American Naval base Pearl Harbor, killing thousands

Yes, here were my exact words:

The Japanese did not attack the U.S. They attacked a foreign military base, after significant provocation.

We had conquered part of Asia, so had they. We were equally brutal. What is wrong with one imperialist attacking the military base of another imperialist?

as for raping and pillaging, ask China about Japan, they set the bar

Ask the Filipinos, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Laotians, etc. Body count: 3-5 million

we had every right to embargo oil to Japan

Sure, but we had no right to militarily block Japanese attempts to acquire oil elsewhere.
