That's how it usually works too. One of the reasons women in traditional patriarchal societies want sons as much as the men is it allows them to climb the ladder. When they are young and married, they relocate to their husband's family's home, where they are the lowest in status and often severely abused. With sons, she has higher status and someone to protect her. And with their wives entering the family, the woman gets to do some beating and bullying herself while she sits back in "retirement" as a matriarch. Derek
