One of the functions of our courts is to ensure that the rule of the majority is not used to infringe upon the rights of any individual.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness...

I cannot imagine anything more integral to the pursuit of happiness than the right to marry who you choose. I frankly wouldn't give a hot round one if all but one person in America disapproved of that last individual's choice of spouse: unless someone could demonstrate that the marriage in question would infringe upon somebody else's rights, that individual should have the right to marry who he wants.

What conceivable business is it of yours, mine, or the federal government's to tell anybody what consenting adult they can or can't marry?
