Not that I think Pollack shouldn't feel some chagrin and shame.

What has Pollack got to be ashamed of? He processed the available Intel. His job was to recommend Policy based on it.

He, like all of the analysts, "nuanced" his recommendations. Same thing Economists do. None of them want to make a binary choice. They want to be able to keep "dancing." That is why you saw all the qualifiers in his book.

I think the reactions like yours are based on a 20/20 hindsight Political position, not the facts on the ground at the time.
