The problem with the concept of rights is that it has become a meaningless term. Every pressure group trots out the word "rights" as a synonym for priveleges bestowed by the State. Everyone takes a "gotta catch em all" attitude. The demand for rights in the United States has become more akin to the demand for special franchises under the medieval monarchies.

It has become a very threadbare, and may I even venture counterproductive, word.
