The longer I live, it seems that a more sensible way to spend the money is to put in an investment or bank account and present it to the happy couple... on their 10th anniversary, if they're still together.

My niece had to have the big traditional Catholic wedding. 8 months worth of planning, fittings, teas, luncheons, etc.

She and her husband were divorced after 2 years and my sister is still paying off the bills.

I told my daughter if she wanted a big wedding, she'd better start saving up for it because what we got in savings goes for college and nothing else.
