You exaggerate the opposition. I have not seen a lot of demonstrations calling for death to America, and they have mainly occurred in the Sunni Triangle. I have seen a few pro- American demonstration, and large demonstrations calling for the death of Saddam. If there were mass resistance, we would would have sustained many more casualties. And let us not forget that the resisters were promised a lot of money for bagging Americans. It is not clear what the Shi'ites, who are not monolithic and disapprove of the Iranian model, will do. You cannot usurp the sovereignty of a state where there is none, except the power of the despot to hold his boot on the neck of the populace. The only way for the society to find its way is to remove the boot......
