I almost put a "Warning - Snooze Alarm" caveat at the beginning of the post, but figured maybe some people actually LIKE reading about the history of ecclesiastical courts in ancient Britain. Hey, it's Friday night, what's more exciting to do? ;^)

Speaking of which, I just started Will's The Negro President - Jefferson and the Slave Power. It's not about Sally Hemmings, it's about the provision in the Constitution which gave slave states 3/5 of a head for each slave when apportioning seats in the House of Representatives. Wills argues that this changed the outcome of a number of significant confrontations between the North and the South with respect to slavery prior to the Civil War.
