there are lots of people from washington state on the anti-Bush threads. Ray Duray and misheldo for example I think are washington state. Californa property is a little hotter than other west coast locales, so you are going to see more Californians on a real estate thread, for sure.

You have to admit Bush's fiscal record stinks and they way he finances this boondoggle is through deficit spending and a transferrance of wealth from the giving states, which include CA, to Bush donor states. Until that changes, and California doesn't feel "ripped off", you are going to get complaints in a general sense. But I am not complaining on behalf of California really. I think that an economy that creates less jobs than Canada (a nation with 1/7 the GDP or less) is something to be ashamed of. Supply siders don't seem ashamed. But I guarantee you they will be ashamed when they see the results of the 04 elections!

If you think Caleefournians are whining now, wait until the interest rate clicks up a few points. I lived there for the last ten years, and I've got to say, 300 days a year there are as good as the best day anywhere else, weatherwise. People there say they pay the "sunshine tax", and I think it's gone up the last few years. If the interest rates click up a few points, we may see a CA "Escape Rush".

Tradelite, RE: "how the older people in California were making out like bandits at the expense of younger ones due to Prop 13."

Lizzie and I are in agreement on Prop 13.

The issue isn't if people live in their homes. The issue is all the people that buy 2nd and 3rd homes in the Bay Area - they are artificially consuming supply here due to the benefits of prop 13 (their words, not mine.) This negatively impacts the new hire.

I have no clue why our new governor hasn't fixed this. He said he would, I thought? Or maybe that was Warren Buffett who suggested the idea.

RE: I also definitely remember hearing the Intel CEO saying, during CA's energy crisis not too long back, that if things continued the way they were, his company would have to leave the state. Think about that."

The energy issues are under investigation by the government.

Barrett's certainly right - our country suddenly decided not to promote corporate competitiveness.
