I agree with your noble intent. But unfortunately our history of supporting freedom for others with our foreign policy is very spotty. Chile in the early 70's is an obvious example. Most of Central America has been badly served by US foreign policy. Freedoms were quashed and many people (mostly peasants) suffered.

We've supported many despots and still do...this particular despot (Saddam), who we've supported in the past, seems to have been a convenient target. Unilateral aggression is not a policy that leads to a safer world.
