While one could argue that the French government is no longer terrorist, they never gave a full and grovelling apology and compensation [they did pay some compensation]. Most French remain in 'good job' mode about the murder on the Rainbow Warrior. They should understand that such actions leave lingering memories.

Yep... And my gut feeling is that I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find France, and possibly Russia, working behind the scenes of some of the turmoil in Iraq.

I have no evidence to support this, but it strikes me as rather odd that neither nation has yet offered any form of assistance for the purpose of rebuilding that country.

As for BP, possibly there was some measure of influence towards seeking to open up Iraq to BP being able to bid for Iraqi work..

But it's irrefutable that France and Russian ALREADY HAD substantial ties with Saddam's regime. Thus, they had vested interests in opposing potential rivals from being able to gain access to the Iraqi oil market.
