Turnipseed said almost the same thing 3-4 years ago, that he didn't remember ever seeing GW and that he would have remembered it if he had. It's the right-wing that's putting the "recant" word on it. It's no recant at all though. It's practically the same story and it's very dishonest to call it anything else. GW's CO doesn't remember ever seeing him and neither does anyone else. Why are you defending Bush on this anyway? defending it just makes more people look into it. It's obvious he was AWOL and lied about it. The White House isn't even disputing that. Their only argument is that he was honorably discharged later. So what? Doesn't change the fact he never showed up.
