well, since I am in Silicon Valley I guess I have a skewed view on VP because Gore played a very active role in the technology business during the clinton presidency.

Personally I don't think Howard has the termperment for VP, but if he was anybody's VP in this race, I'd vote for them.

Dean doesn't rule out V.P. slot

I honestly think things are so screwed up that whoever is president is going to have to appoint probably 10 really strong lieutenants to deal with each of the messes. And each of these roles will be very key to the health of the country, maybe the areas of: trade/globalization (big one), healthcare (should be an MD), bridging NATO relations, Iraq/Afganistan reconstruction, homeland security ( protecting BORDERS primarily), budget/deficit/dollar. When Clinton was president he had a strong smart term at least in economics/labor with Bob Rubin, Laura Tyson, Robert Reich. Maybe they made some errors with Nafta but their decisions seemed right at the time. Anyway the new president needs people that capable in ALL of these areas. So in this case I think VP is a key role, things are just too messed up.
