Good article, Doug. A couple of things:in the minds of Arabs and Muslims everywhere, the U.S. seems to have accepted all actions by Palestinians against Israelis, including acts against Israeli soldiers as well as those against innocent civilians, as being terrorism. At the same time, however, the U.S. appears to believe that no acts by Israelis against Palestinians constitute terrorism. Arabs see this as a double standard. It's worse than a double standard. The government stood by, did nothing, was not outraged when an israeli soldier murdered a young American woman by mowing her down with a backhoe. Yesterday the Israelis murdered a child who was on his way to school. What the Israelis have been allowed and continue to do has directly resulted in increased terrorism...we need to put a leash on that dog.

Additionally, because of our close ties to Saudi leaders, Bush ignored the fact it was Saudis who attacked us 9/11, not Iraqis...Saddam was a CIA dupe, his country was unarmed. Bush knew this. King Abdullah of Jordan, whose IQ is exponential to Bush's, told that idiot that Iraq presented no threat, that invading Iraq would be catastrophic creating more problems for the area. AND HE WAS RIGHT. as were half the people in this country along with the rest of the world. History, if Bush could read, has shown that actions such as the ones Bush took, could only end in disaster, create more turmoil and breed a generation of people who rebel monumentally against the oppression.

The article states draconian measures should be taken to reduce energy usage. After the gas crises of the 70's those steps were taken when smaller, fuel efficient cars hit the market and were swooped up by a public that had been given a rude awakening relating to the finite limits of oil. That was 30 years ago! The past decade has seen the manufacture of gas-guzzlers that rival those of the 70's. There are more car owners than ever now, and people are less inclined to walk even to the corner mail-box. What the heck happened there? The masses are asses and we are all guilty of falling into the trap of buying what's available, what has cachet. However, with all the technological advances, why is it that fuel-efficiency hasn't been engineered into SUVs? I don't blame the consumers so much as I blame those behind what's out there to be consumed...

Anyway, there's a lot in that interesting article you posted, and it doesn't look as though we'll extricate ourselves from this web any time soon.
