Posting on SI boards affords me the luxury of not having to stress the importance of timing. In the ever day world, many don't understand just how important timing is. As the party of the super rich, the Republicans know they can't always be popular, and continue to support policies that benefit only 10% of the population. So the strategy is to make a sufficiently large enough segment "take their eye off the ball" come election time. Now what will work as a distraction for one group, won't for another. For the Christian Right, this year it's going to be gay marriage. Sure the guy's job may be in jeopardy, but if when he goes into the voting booth, he's thinking of his kids’ souls, he'll vote accordingly.

As I said, timing is important. For the last mid-term elections, what did we have? A congressional vote on going to war. Everyone (well not everyone, but many) was thinking about war, and not that the economy was in the tank. And you know the results. Now the WTC was 9-11-01. We knew where Osama was, but we didn't get him. Many think we know where he is now. And guess what? For the first time, US troops will be going into Pakistan in '04 - not in '03, but '04. Will a boost in popularity from Osama's capture (or death) last? Of course not. That's why his fall must be timed just right. Will OBL's fall work to distract everyone? No, but it adds another group into the Repub’s total. Enough of these groups, and it's four more years.

Now let's say something goes wrong with Rove's plans, and come the Fall, Bush looks like he's going to lose. That's when all the rules (laws) go out the window. These guys aren't going to lose, no matter what it takes.

I love the fact that the wingers hate her so much.

You and me both.

Lizzie, isn't that a change of viewpoint for you or am I confusing you with someone else?

At one point someone in the outsourcing business was arguing with me and they claimed the trend was almost over or some other nonsense. The only other part I remember was that ORCL was involved in the discussion.

You are in the outsourcing business, right?
Did you change your opinion on how bad this is going to get?
Thanks
M
