Hi marcos; Interesting comment by McNamara on the situation in Germany when it had become obvious that they would lose, and his justification for not telling the public the truth that Vietnam wasn't winnable.

It's not really accurate, in that it was not obvious that they would lose so much as obvious that they could not win. You could conclude that they would lose if the British and Russians refused to negotiate, but the human spirit is built from hope, so they naturally went into hope mode and simply fought so as to give as much time for the Allies to negotiate as possible. Similarly, we are staying in Iraq so that we can give the Iraqi people as much time as possible to change their hearts and minds.
