Even Time magazine in a current piece, certainly not overly favorable to Sharon, says that the problem is Arafat. There will never be peace while he is in power abusing his own people.

Even top Palestinian officials blame Arafat for blocking the crackdown on terror by his own Prime Minister, Ahmed Qurie. So Sharon must choose between the current bloody stalemate or a stalemate on his own terms, with Israel pulled back behind the "security fence" that snakes along the border of the West Bank and juts into occupied territory to protect settlements.

Robert, You post that the Palestinians were well off and better off than any other Arabs in the Middle East. The implication is that they should be happy with their lot and stay that way.
Don't you see that that is the arguments made by US slave owners in 1800's? Today, that's considered racist.
Hitler told the Red Cross that the Jews in the concentration camps are better off than the Jews in rest of Europe being beset by the war.
I know the Palestinian ghetto is different in that there are no gas ovens ..yet. But it is the same in that there have been many cases when women were not able to get through the camp guards and get to hospitals when in labor and some have died sitting in cars for in excess of 10 hours. There have been no cases of pregnant women in labor carrying bombs.
