Psychology of the human society cannot explain in the rational way the exact timely reaction affecting large percentage of the population which cause the chain reaction. IMO the run on banks like have seen in Argentina or Brazil will be repeated in US. If you can borrow and reinvest for higher return - why not? The outflow might be on the monster scale and impossible to stop without shutting down the banking system for the loans and deposits as well. What happened in the past, might happen in the future. Lots of the people of first generation who borrowed the money to the Uncle Sam are still around to tell the story to the grandchildren and pass the bonds with the advice to cash them while you can.
