Um. I think somebody's engaging in wishful thinking here. W himself might not be up for a fight, but his handlers aren't going to give up easily, and they got $200 million budgeted for the mother of all propaganda operations. It isn't going to be pretty, but it could very well work. People ate up the carrier landing / turkey dinner stunts, and I'm sure there's a lot of similar programming on tap.

Here's my view, once again, of the Bush interview:

Bush feigned, squirmed, weaved, dodged and wanted very much to pretend the whole matter was one of being nice. His eyes showed clear hesitation, and his shortness of breath and use of forced pause was telling.

Clearly, Bush was remembering coached lines, championing redundancy and playing fiddle only to his crucial base of electoral support. This in a backdrop of the GOPwinger plan with money to buy fencesitter voters, enough to put him over the top in demographically-targeted states.

The truth of this interview was the appearance of Bush as a truth-tormented man. He pretended well that his dunce cap was invisible. Anyone with knowing eyes could see this; anyone with a feeling as to what's going on knew this.
