Goldman Sachs offers route to China market
By Andrew Cave, Associate City Editor (Filed: 09/02/2004)

Goldman Sachs will today launch a financial instrument aimed at investors wanting exposure to the soaring Chinese stock market.

The investment bank is listing on the London Stock Exchange four covered warrants and certificates that track the performance of the FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index. The index contains China Mobile, Petrochine, China Life Insurance, China Telecom and 21 other companies listed in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Last year the index increased by 92pc.

Goldman is launching a certificate that will track the 25 stocks for two years, expiring in January 2006. It is also offering three leveraged warrants that will enable investors to take riskier bets against the index's movements this year.
