to withdraw for health reasons (either real or imagined) from the VP spot to "freshen" things up a bit for a flagging George Bush. My thoughts were Powell--or Rice as replacements.

I think your scenario of intervention in the Ten Year Treasury is more likely to come to pass than our shared .25 bps cut. But what led me to the cut was the notion that the Economy could be freaking out already--from a series of poor job reports or a dollar crisis--or major market swoon.
