What are we afraid of? Well, there is the little matter of 540A.D. (arbitrary date). Rome overrun by barbarians. The beginning of the Dark Ages. The Byzantine Empire destroyed by Muslims. Trade between the Mediterranean and the Far East halted for centuries.

We can argue until we run out of breath in our bodies as to what caused all that, but that's what we're afraid of. Rightly so, I might add.

I'm pretty sure more than ten thousand men in this country already have multiple wives. You might get several hundred thousand polygamists within a few years. What would that do to our existing laws and customs on family, marriage, divorce and all the attendant rights and responsibilities?
