>>Media failed
The media deserve censure. Since 9/11, some North American media have increasingly resembled the old, boot-licking Soviet press in the days of Chairman Leonid Brezhnev, rather than an inquiring free press.

(I've said this numerous times on SI.)

Readers say they are mad as hell, but don't know what to do. They express a loss of trust in their government I've not heard since the days of Richard Nixon and the Watergate scandal.

Many think the Howard Dean campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination was sabotaged by the pro-Bush corporate media - a view I partly share.

Even more fear November's election will again be "stolen," or a "terrorism crisis" will occur, staged to win votes.<<

Killer,
I never agreed with Dean that Iraq is the issue that caused Americans to become angry with Bush Adm. Their angry due to loss of jobs & Bush White House's lack of concern for the horrendous negative effects on workers of the "unfair" trade agreements.

I agree that the media failed but can't blame Bush supporters for Dean's demise; rather, the media itself pummeled him pre-Iowa as well as his fellow Democrats. Dean could not recover because the press jumped on the 'mo' train for Kerry day after Iowa caucuses & has not jumped off as yet. They've pushed the most boring Dem candidate in recent history on us. He reminds me of an underweight Herman Munster, altho' Herman had a more sparkling personality than John and was better looking.(even without botox)

If Kerry becomes Dem's nominee, I sincerely HOPE the Repubs pull binLaden out of a cave & scream "we found him" on Nov 3. At least with Bush/Cheney, we cannot be used as a punching bag by the terrorists. Kerry would return us to the days of paralysis by analysis.

I'm still holding in their for Dean and hope he's correct about winning Wisc, but learned when Bob Dole lost Repub primary fight few yrs back...that the best man does not always win.

If I see Kerry's insincere, plastic smile one more time, I might give a Dean scream:)
