I don't care how good of an American the Democrats in the Congress are, or aren't. I'm not intending to use them for breeding purposes. All I care about is what they're DOING. I like a lot of what Bush SAYS. I don't like a lot of what he's doing. If Clinton a few years back, if Kerry in the future if he gets elected, or, in fact, if my brother in law got elected and made the same judgements, I'd oppose them with all of my ability. I'm talking not about the fact of tax relief, but the allocation of more of that relief to those with megabucks when giving relief to wage earners would have had a far more significant effect on jobs and in stimulating this economy. I'm talking about running a secretive and hidden government where the opposing views are ignored and policy is made without debate or discussion. I'm especially talking about the war in Iraq for reasons which I've long discussed. This thing that's trumpeted by the religious and many on the right of looking for overt patriotism, overt religious and mainstream values and other "correct" personality traits, while important, is often used to obscure a more important characteristic. The important trait is whether or not the person, whatever their "personal correctness" score, has demonstrated good judgement and the ability to be RIGHT. This man Bush has been wrong, and way wrong, in many of his most important judgements. The fact that he's good intentioned doesn't make that OK. Many of the most important leaders of Western society from the past have been men who would have failed the "values" test. They did, however, have one thing in common; they had vision, intellect, a strong love of country and they had excellent judgement when it came to charting a path for their country. I want that kind of president and I don't want to get sidetracked by people that think if you believe the right things you must be the right man to lead the country. As far as 60 minutes, I watch them and many times there is truth in what they say. I just sort it out in terms of whether it adds up and whether it's well sourced. The story I'm referring to was substantiated by the military spokesman himself as he constantly modified his postion until it was virtually indistinguishable from the one he'd so vehemently denied at the onset. It's hard to fake that.
