The article also explains why there has been little hiring in the Silicon Valley. The hiring is done in India and other places HP and IBM out-source many of these mid level jobs to. I remember my R&D days when a buyer was a key part of the team to help you meet price targets. It seems that computers are now taking over that job function in addition to IT and secretary/support jobs. My guess is it hurts the restaurant industry too as salesmen don't throw parties and take out computers to lunch to win favor...
