Maybe the real intent behind the Iraq thingy was to have troops in place in the event Saudi Arabia gets crazy? Despite the repercussions to the economy I would like to see Saudi Arabia get whooped on. They are the nation most culpible for 9/11 after Afghanistan.

Let's see, Iraq after the first war was under all manner of embargo.. And let's not forget, last many many years, they were confined to the centre with both US and British bombing away with impunity.. UN inspections did not find anything and said so.. It would have been easy enough to continue keeping his nuts in the vise and punish every Iraqi equally but that would all have not bought the kind of hysteria that needed to be cooked up.. The fact that Sunni and Shias will be going at each other, and it would be fertile ground for every nut in that region was raised but that was over looked as well.. In some ways, this one played out like the last one.. There was that cooked up 'Iraqi ripping babies out from the incubator' presentation.. and let's not forget building up of the so called elite Republican Guards, formidable etc.. My thoughts leading up to last one in 1991 where, Iraq had been going at Iran for so long without making any gains or doing any serious damage.. How formidable could the army be ? They were not and to think after 12 years of embargo and constant bombing and inspections they would have anything more threatening now was not that credible either..
