Kenneth, there area whole lot of us that have done our part to the best of our ability. I don't know why this "THE OTHER SIDE'S FULL OF TERRIBLE PEOPLE" screaming took hold. Because of my value system, my analysis and my experiences, I hold certain views and have certain preferences but I UNDERSTAND AND RESPECT the right of others to believe differently. What I don't understand is why why we must malign the person of those that we disagree with.

I think we need a lesson in what makes democracy work. In the final analysis democracy works best when there is a free exchange of, and respect for, differing opinions. The more important and passionate the issues upon which the opinions are offered, the more important it is that we have vigorous discourse and debate.

We haven't done that since the shyrocketing popularity of opinion-skewed and attacking talk radio. It started with conservatives talk radio but now the liberals are employing the same methods. It's time we recognized that polarizing process as damaging to us all.

If we stopped listening to all of the people that were telling us we were right, and started listening to all of the people that viewed things differently, we might find that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. When people feel strongly about something there is usually a principled position underlying their opinions. After all, how many "fascists, socialists, communists and anti-Americans" are there really living in the U.S.. The reality is that we all row the same ship.
